Molecule 04 Escentric Molecules: My Velvety Sandalwood Romance

Molecule 04 Escentric Molecules is not your typical fragrance. And when I say typical, I don’t just mean the scent, which is one-of-a-kind, but also the way it behaves. It’s like a perfume ghost that comes and goes, defying the laws of physics and metaphysics. And if you’re not careful, it can linger for days in the air, like an airborne perfume accident, or weeks on your clothes.

It’s a woody scent described as futuristic freshness, which sounds cheesy, but it’s on point. Before you go all in and buy a bottle, stay with me because you might only need a small decant.

My Story With This Particular Escentric Molecule

The gist behind escentric molecules branding appeals to me. The idea of selling perfume ingredients such as iso e super or pure javanol as finished products exudes a sense of minimalism that I appreciate but do not believe in. Their scents are too complex to be a simple molecule, but who cares?

A few years back, I had Molecule 02, and let me tell you, I have fond memories of it because I used to mix it with other fragrances and create these Frankenstein-like creations that I absolutely loved. But anyways, back to Molecule 04.

The unique ingredient present in this creation by perfumer Geza Schoen is javanol. Javanol is a sandalwood type molecule trying to capture the scent created by nature. What does escentric molecule 04 smell like? To me, it smells like a vague fresh vanilla with metallic tones that reminds me of a specific minority of fragrances that truly mix with your smell, creating a kind of new body odor. The sandalwood smell is there, but to my nose, it’s encapsulated in a creamy citric texture which I adore.

I once hugged my sister’s border collie without wearing a shirt, and the dog smelled like Molecule 04 for a couple of days. This thing is powerful. I wear one spray at a time, so I’m pretty sure my bottle will last until the robot uprise.

Who Do I See Wearing Molecule 04

This is a tricky question because even though I consider it a 100% unisex scent, its concept takes work to accept. At first sniff, it seems like a simple, sweet, fresh, and creamy fragrance, but as the hours pass on the skin, it becomes animalistic at times, fresh at others, and for some people with high sensitivity, almost overwhelmingly powerful.

My advice, get a few Escentric Molecules samples. Test them on your skin and evaluate them after several hours and multiple uses because this particular perfume house specializes in creating scents that trick our noses into believing they do not smell while people around us can clearly detect their presence.

Molecule 04 Escentric Molecules is ideal as a signature scent for unique individuals.

I've been obsessed with fragrances for over a decade. I have sold fragrances for a living and written about them in places like Fragrantica and Scentbird. Here I recommend my favorites to make the world a better-smelling place.
